Melissa's Dragster

Melissa's Dragster

In the video below is our friend, Melissa Westerman, piloting her 6 second blown gas "Girl Power Racing" dragster at Sacramento Raceway back in about 2007 making a few easy, low 7 second passes in the 185 to 195 MPH range on a test & tune day. At the time of this video it had a 468 cubic inch big block Chevy in it running on alcohol with about 16 psi of boost. It made in the neighborhood of 1,000 HP.

She also pilots a 10 second street driven Mustang that is notorious for riding wheelies. There is a video of her running that car at the track at Sonoma Raceway down below as well when she was still in high school.

This is the car that started it all for Melissa back when she was in high school here in Sonoma running at the Wednesday Night Drags pulling easy 11.00's at 119 MPH. The car is usually in the 10's between 10.60 and 10.80, but easy 11.00's isn't too shabby for typical Wednesday Night conditions. The suspension on this car is pretty much all stock except for a set of CalTrac bars.

Look at the picture of her on a wheelie when the video stops and you can clearly see the stock suspension, including the original drum brakes. She does run 8" slicks when racing so she can get traction behind that 408 small block.

I built that 408 cubic inch small block for Melissa way back in about 2004 and just speaking with her in early 2024, she tells me that it is still running the same engine and that it still runs as strong today as it did back then almost 20 year later - after hundreds and hundreds of passes at the race track. Plus, she actually drove this car back and forth to high school each day, and then out to the race track for the Wednesday night drags at Sears Point (Sonoma Raceway) where they would switch tires to a set of 8" slicks and run for the night.
